Next mark a line 6" up (from the top bearing cup) on the tubing (7" if you are using a 21" wheel) clamp a pair of vise grips on this line (this is your stop point). Now you will have the bearing cups in the neck for this part, you will need a piece of steel tubing just big enough for a slip fit through the bearing cups, slide the tubing through the neck it should center on the line you have marked on the board when you string lined the frame.
Ok your cuts have been made and your frame is mounted in the jig. You will make cuts as indicated in the red lines to save stops or in blue to eliminate them Next decide if you want to keep the stock lock and stops in place if the answer is yes then the cut and weld is a little more complicated. String line the center line of the bike out about 4' in front of the bike (this line is critical so make sure it is perfect). Set up a jig using a sheet of 3/4" plywood figure up the road height you want for the frame make frame brackets (wood is fine) to support the frame at that height, set the frame on your brackets and bolt it down. raking the neck on the forged frames is not a problem. Rake the neck you are looking for a 40 degree rake for your 6 over front end. With the 4 inch drop the original 29.6 rake should have changed at least 5 deg.ĭon't tell the guys that use raked trees that they screw up the handling LOL. you got any input it would be appreciated. thinking ill use 3 degree caps and see what i get and 0 degree trees. they call for a 40 degree rake 0 on the trees. but she 's impossible to keep on the road, the formulas i find for rake and trail do not take into account for the 4 inch rear end drop.
next i wanted to rake it and put a 6 over wideglide frontend on it i used 5 degree tripples, 21 inch wheel, bike looks great for old iron. Which worked out extremely well and i could still run my original rear wheel and brakes. and everyone was telling me not to do a rigid, so i made my own swingarm, lowered the bike four inches and stretched it four.
ive got a 76 xlh, bike runs good i decided to change the look, i bought a bolt on hardtail, but after a mock install i figured out it would take a complete rear end change. My name is joseph blackburn they call me breaker, just recenly joined.if anyone can answer this its you guys i hope.
